What is so terrorizing about the older Horror/Thriller films? Why are we fans of them? Do they make our skin crawl? Things to think about... WE NEED ANSWERS!
Old Release: "Amityville Horror" Starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder
Released on July 27, 1979
Horror film Directed by Stuart Rosenberg and Written by Sandor Stern and Jay Anson (based on the book by)
"The Amityville Horror" (1979), a couple with children move into their new house, only to find out that a mass murder was committed there previously. Strange things begin to happen, driving the family out of the house.
So allegedly, this was based on a true story...
In 1974, Ronald DeFeo murdered his entire family, including his parents and four siblings, while they slept nestled in their beds.
A year later, the Lutz family moved in, only to have lived there for 28 days. They claim paranormal activity drove them out of the house.
The film is excitingly terrifying, old school and hair-raising creepy.
I remember when I first watched it. I was about 10 years old or so. My family and I are huge Horror fans so I was introduced to TONS of Horror films when I was really young. I was so scared! Haha!
Especially the part when the priest comes in and the flies terrorize him at the window. "GET OUT!"
Quick little story... when I was in my early to late teens, I used to love scaring people. I would wear Halloween costumes at my camp and scare the crap out of people.
But anyways, one night at home, my brother went into the bathroom to get ready for work. While the door was shut, I bent down to the bottom of the door (where the crack is), and I whispered, "GET OUT!" - Just like in "Amityville Horror." I sounded JUST like the whisper in the movie.
My brother actually got scared and said something that I can't put on here (Haha!). he actually freaked out and thought something was in OUR house.
Mind you, he was very hard to scare.
Needless to say, I got 'em.

Old Release: "Friday the 13th" Starring Adrienne King and Betsy Palmer
Released on May 9, 1980
Horror/Thriller film Directed by Sean S. Cunningham and Written by Victor Miller
"Friday the 13th" (1980), a group of camp counselors are stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp which, years before, was the site of a child's drowning.
Let me just start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE this movie and some people might say that I am obsessed with Jason Voorhees. Now I know that adult Jason is not in the first film (spoil alert: his mother Pamela Voorhees is the killer), haha! BUT I loved Pamela's character as well as she KILLED it!
Bahahahahahaha...
Ki Ki Ki.. Ma Ma Ma...
Pamela grieved over the drowning of her son, poor Jason. She claimed that "no one was watching him as they were making love." It's all about payback, revenge as you will. These counselors were in for a RUDE awakening!
Do we feel bad for her? Of course. Do some of us know how she feels? Of course to that too! Do some of us understand her pain and frustration? Always... There's always SOMETHING that happens in one's life that completely destroys the mental state of the brain. Some of us take it in and deal with it with stride; others can't handle situations and may succumb to acts of violence (this is not the way to go people).
Truth be told, when I was little, I absolutely HATED this movie. I was completely and utterly deathly afraid of Jason Voorhees. I was scared of everything about him. It actually went into my adulthood as well.
But now, things have changed.
Funny story to share.. when I was in my early twenties, I went to a haunted house with some family and friends. The beginning of the tour, we rode on a hay ride. The theme for that year was serial killers. Of course, while we were on the hay ride, one of the actors dressed as Jason Voorhees, popped out from behind a tree RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and chased me with a machete. I kicked my feet at him in terror. I screamed and cried; everyone laughing at me.
At the time it was horrific for me. Oh my how times have changed. People ask me, why are you so obsessed with "Friday the 13th" and Jason Voorhees?
And I ask, aren't we all obsessed with SOMETHING?
It's the characters, the motives, the "camp" story background, the horror of knowing the true reason why Pamela Voorhees did what she did. It's the feeling of being scared, the "unknown assailant."
I was lucky enough to get picked to visit Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Blairstown, NJ in April 2018. The Camp Crystal Lake Tours; where they filmed "Friday the 13th." A once in a lifetime opportunity that was beautiful and the tour guides had much useful information. We watched the film at the end of the tour on a huge screen at the beach. It was amazing and I hope to go again very soon.
I was able to meet Adrienne King; she is extremely nice and awesome in person. I told her about myself and how I make films and write scripts as well. I asked for her friendly advice. She said to me, "Out of all the no's you receive, it only takes ONE person to say yes. Don't ever give up Angela."
I haven't given up and neither should you..
